THERE NOT HERE (Weather)
New shows broadcasting at 7pm on second Wednesday of each month.
There Not Here is a monthly broadcast of field recordings on AFM. Each edition is organised around a theme chosen by Tash van Schaardenburg, Jimmy Solórzano, Sam Longmore and Xin Cheng, artists working with and in relation to field recording in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa. In repsonse, each of these artists produces a selection of recordings over the course of a month.
The third There Not Here broadcast was organised around the theme, ‘Weather’, suggested by Sam Longmore, and was first broadcast on Wednesday 12 May.
Responding to this theme, Jimmy made recordings of the summer rains experienced in the Coromandel Peninsula, Tash presented a recording of themself from 2020, trapped in a small cabin by freezing winds in Abisko, Sweden, Sam compiled a selection of recordings of summertime thunderstorms recorded in the Czech Republic in 2012, and Xin shared recordings made along Te Auaunga / Oakley Creek walkway using microphones and hydrophones to document how weather events are experienced by the landscape.
